BJP to Contest Punjab General Election Independently; Akali Dal Alliance Fails to Materialize
In Punjab, the BJP will contest the upcoming general election solo. The alliance with its former NDA partner, Shiromani Akali Dal, did not materialize. Consequently, all major political parties in Punjab will be contesting independently.
The Akali Dal was previously part of the NDA but withdrew from it in 2020 following the launch of the farmer agitation against the repeal of three controversial farm laws.
State BJP chief Sunil Jakhar announced that the BJP will contest the election independently and will not seek an alliance. Punjab has 13 Lok Sabha seats, and in this northern state, the I.N.D.I Alliance partners, Aam Aadmi Party and Congress, are also contesting independently.
